The mission of the Mt. Zion Youth Theatre program is to offer excellence in theatre along with opportunities for leadership from a Christian perspective. This program is designed to challenge students from ages 9 thru 17 in a wide variety of acting techniques. High quality performances will be held in a state of the art theatre where participants will be able to demonstrate their talents to the community.

Program Content: 2012-2013
The Youth Theatre program is an ALL INCLUSIVE program that begins in June, 2012 and culminates in March, 2013. The program is NOT designed to give students the ability to choose just one of the three activities noted below. Student’s are expected to complete the program in it’s entirety. The program consists of:
One Broadway Camp – July 30th through August 3rd from 11am to 5pm
Three Performances in October – October 12, 13, 19 & 20, 2012 at 7:30pm / October 13 & 20, 2012 at 1:00pm. All shows
   are in the Mt. Zion Theatre.
Three Performances in March – March 8, 9, 15 & 16, 2012 at 7:30pm / March 9 & 16, 2012 at 1:00pm. All shows are in
   the Mt. Zion Theatre.

Casting will be determined by director. Attendance, skill level, previous roles, and other factors will influence assignment of parts/roles.


Enrollment Information: 2012-2013
Contract Deposit due March 30, 2012
• A $125 deposit is due with each signed contract. If all Youth Theatre program requirements are met, $50 will be refunded
   in April, 2013. Requirements include, but are not limited to, attendance at rehearsals, Techs, and performances. $75 will
   be applied towards your first payment.
• If a student leaves the program prior to March 23, 2013, the entire deposit of $125 will not be refunded.

Pre-Requisites for Participation
• First year students are required to attend the intensive and must be enrolled in at least one School of Performing
   Arts theatre/broadway class.
• Students ages 11 and under must be enrolled in at least one School of Performing Arts theatre/broadway class.
• Students ages 12 and older must meet at least one of the following requirements:
   ∼ Minimum of two years advanced acting classes taken either at the Mt. Zion School of Performing Arts or elsewhere.
      Foundational requirements are verified through an audition process.
   ∼ If less than two years of advanced acting classes have been taken, the student must be enrolled in at least one School of
      Performing Arts theatre or broadway class.
• Registration forms for the required class must be submitted no later than Friday, July 13, 2012.



Calendar: 2011-2012
Rehearsals for Youth Theatre occur every Tuesday and Saturday:
• August, 2012
   ∼ Tuesday from 6pm to 9pm
   ∼ Saturday from 12pm to 4pm

• September 2012 and March 2013
   ∼ Tuesday from 6pm to 8pm
   ∼ Saturday from 12pm to 3pm (Extended rehearsals, 11am to 5pm, will be held on Saturday, Dec 8, 2012; Sat, Jan 12, 2013;
      and Sat, Feb 9, 2013)

• Techs for Youth Theatre are at the following times:
   ∼ Monday and Tuesday from 5:30pm to 9pm
   ∼ Saturday from 9am to 5pm

Youth Theatre performances are at 7:30pm for the evening shows and 1pm for the matinee

Registration/Payment Information: 2012-2013
Price is $630 and includes:
• One camp and six performances (October and March).
• One costume for each performance (students may be expected to purchase undergarments, socks, hats, and other
   accessories). Please note all costumes remain the property of Mt. Zion.
• Three t-shirts (one for each event)
• One copy of instruction and corresponding materials such as scripts, props, and music CDs. A fee will be assessed for
   additional copies.

Please note that your account must be in good standing in order to participate in each event. Students with past due accounts will not be allowed to participate or audition for the camp/performance. A late fee of 5% will be applied.

Refund and Cancellation Policies:
Each participant is critical to the success of this program and once registered, your team/classmates are depending on you. As such, refunds will not be given for the youth theatre program and full tuition payment is expected from all participants.



General Information: 2012-2013
Code of Conduct/Other Policies and Procedures:
All policies and decisions are at the sole discretion of the Mt. Zion Youth Theatre. We reserve the right to expel any student based on behavior, attitude, attendance or other issues.

Parent Expectations:
• An informational meeting will be held for parents regarding the Youth Theatre program on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at
  7pm in the Mt. Zion Theatre.
• Multiple performances are being held. Parents are expected to volunteer at one tech, during two performances, and during
  strike for both the October and March performances.
• Parents are invited to attend the performances. Audition and rehearsal attendance is restricted to students and teachers only.
• If your student runs into a problem with a teacher or another student, please approach the teacher first to discuss
  the situation. If you still feel the issue has not been resolved, please contact the school director.
• Youth Theatre is a comprehensive program which includes camp as well as performances in October and March.
  Participation is mandatory in these events.

Student Expectations:
• Attendance at camp, rehearsals, techs, and performances are mandatory. Your attendance may influence casting and/or
  your ability to participate in the performances.
• Each student is allowed 2 excused absences per session. The program begins in June and runs through the following March.
• All students should arrive 10 minutes prior to class.
• Costumes are the property of Mt. Zion Youth Theatre and are to remain on site at all times. Additional accessories are the
  responsibility of the student.
• Proper attire is required to participate in class: modest, comfortable clothing and shoes that allows each student to
  move, bend, and sit on the floor. Please no dresses, skirts, or skorts.
• The use of cell phones is prohibited during rehearsals and class times.
• Food and drink is prohibited in the classrooms and theatre (water is allowed). However, a small coffee area has been
  made available for your use. Please be sure to clean-up after yourself in order to make the area available for the next
  family.



Additional Training: 2012-2013
(Mandatory for 1st year students; optional for students who have completed at least one year of Youth Theatre.)
Theatre Intensive – Cost: $45.00
   ∼ Three hour sessions from 1pm to 4pm (Tuesday, June 26, 2012; Wednesday, June 27, 2012; and Thursday, June 28, 2012).
   ∼ The workshops will provide instruction in theatrical training that is not part of our normal curriculum.
   ∼ Sign up deadline is June 4, 2012.
